Flying Anvil 5k this morning in Chariton, they start it not with a gun but with shooting off a 200 lb anvil with black powder--the loudest thing I've heard in a while--bout scared the crap out of me, but not a bad way to start a race--all things considered, some kid flew out of the gates, but other than that I knew I'd be setting the early pace, caught him at 800 and continued on to a 5:30 first mile, by about 1.5 I was well out front so about 2 miles in (11:10 or so), i kind of shut it down, should have easily finished around 17:30 today, but because of the slow down, I crossed in 17:52, was more concerned with holding onto the win and since it wasn't close, I knew I didn't have to kill my legs. The win got me a $100 visa gift card--as good as cash! I think that is the highest amount I've ever won--certainly so for a 5k. Small cooldown--will be starting my training cycle reset afterwards for the next two weeks--nice to end it on back-to-back wins!
